These ARE the droids you’re looking for

web design agency hertfordshire

Ok, we knew there would be at least one of you that writes into the contact form that we’ve misquoted the famous line, but we did it on purpose.

You see, these scenes were a really powerful lesson for us all (don’t tell us you didn’t try it out ONCE).
If a person was confident and persuasive, they could get ANYONE to do ANYTHING (although controlling the most powerful force in the universe probably helped too) .

So why is a web design agency referencing Sci-Fi?!

It’s not just because we haven’t been getting outside much lately…

It’s because digital marketing is a lot like mind control, brainwashing or, dare we say, inception. You build a digital marketing strategy based on understanding the pain of your target audiences, and then, through your:

  • Website
  • Google ads
  • Social media
  • Email marketing

You make them believe that you alone hold the perfect solution, at the best price, with the guarantee of a return on their investment.

Of course, if you’re not using your website to influence a user’s behaviour, you are missing out on a very important trick!

So, what should you be thinking about when you next update your website?

Consider our top 3 tricks to improving the influence on your visitor’s behaviour:

  1. Make the user experience across your website REALLY easy. When deciding what needs to go in the site’s navigation, or what pages you need to build out, consider keeping things simple. If there is too much choice, or it’s not clear what they’ll be reading, your visitors won’t stay to work it out!

Consider setting out the navigation in a way that will mirror the knowledge they would need for each stop on the buyer’s journey. For example, they want to know more about you, your team and what you ACTUALLY do. Then, they might want to understand in more detail how you can help them or what kind of clients you’ve already been able to help. You get that point really…

  2. Have a website that LOOKS as good as it reads. We all love a little attention to aesthetics, so your website’s choice of colours must be in keeping with your brand palette, as well as adding videos, animations and photographs (NOT just stock imagery!) to attract a visitor’s attention.

The psychology behind this is that if something looks better, we assume it also works better. Just the choice of colours can make a huge impact on their actions, but we’ll talk about that another time! From an accessibility point of view, consider using an online contrast checker to make sure that the colours you choose make the content accessible to all manners of visitors, and not just a select audience.

  3. Make those next steps intuitive. It’s obvious that you want more from your visitor than just their time. You want it to be clear HOW you want a user to interact with your website by making plenty of opportunities for them to “learn more”, “click here”, “book in a call” or “download a free guide”.

Call to action buttons are the most obvious choice, as they can be conveniently placed around the site, but don’t forget contact details, a contact form and links to social media if they want to get more of an idea about you and your brand.

Now, there is SO much more that we want to share with you about how to get the best results from having an attractive and functional website, but we’ve been told to stick to 3.
